The Marriage Proposal.
Marriage proposals normally happen between two people, in romantic locations, when the moment is just right. What if the marriage proposal happened in a very public place, involving over one hundred people, all sharing in this very private moment, together?
This is just what I did. On May 1st 2011, in the center of the Ithaca New York commons, at exactly 12:25pm, I proposed to my future wife. But it was not that straight forward: the commons was full of over one hundred people all in on my proposal plan. The massive crowd formed a complete circle around my unaware bride to be. An air horn sounded to notify the crowd to get geared up for my mass marriage proposal. Everyone participating counted to three and yelled, "Susan, will you marry me?", while I kneeled to the ground and presented Susan with a completely wood ring I designed and had carved by the amazing woodworker Scott Urban of Chicago.
The sound of over one hundred people proposing at once was thunderous. The joy and excitement is shared by everyone involved. The crowd cheered and cried and then quickly dispersed in a flash-mob format. The entire experience was captured on film by the talented Rachel Ferro.
